Travis Scott knows the expectations are high.
After a Cinderella season that ended in the 2004 Division II National Championship,
the expectations for the 2005 Belle season
are, well - stratospheric.
But, Scott isn’t worried. Despite losing eight seniors from last year’s
national title team, Scott feels that the 2005 team has the
elements in place to again be one of the top teams in the nation, and with
a little luck, be right back in the championship game.
“We feel like we have the talent to be extremely successful,”
Scott said. “The future looks very good, but of course, we hope that
future is now. We have a great group of recruits, with some really talented
freshmen. We won’t have a set lineup for a while, but
that’s a good thing, because these players have to come every day to
practice ready to work, and there is no job security at any
position, because we have so much talent and versatility.”
The Belles will feature one of the youngest teams in the Lone Star Conference,
with eight freshmen stepping into the lineup this
spring. Scott is high on his new crop of players, but also has three senior
leaders to lend some balance and stability to the youth on
the team.
“Hey, we lost a lot of great players,” Scott said. “You
don’t win a national championship unless you have great players, and we
were blessed with an exceptional group last year. But, with that said, I
think this team has that ability, to be the type of team that
can keep us among the top teams in the league and in the nation.”
